Register for SMARTSPEND’s Online Workshop “Financing Clean Energy Transition in the Context of EU Recovery”

On 30 September 2020, the SMARTSPEND project will hold its Online Workshop “Financing Clean Energy Transition in the Context of EU Recovery”.

SMARTSPEND is a Horizon2020 project that seeks to coordinate the efforts of industry, national governments and European institutions in investing in clean energy research and development. The SMARTSPEND Online Workshop will bridge investors and clean energy innovators, bringing clarifications on the access to EU funding in the recovery period of Europe.

The Workshop will gather speakers from investment institutes, European and national institutions, funding programme managers and clean energy innovators. The Online Workshop is a replacement of the “SMARTSPEND Access to Risk Finance Conference”, now postponed to Spring 2021.

The workshop will be a good opportunity to discuss the newly published SMARTSPEND reports related to:

  • Mapping report on funding instruments for energy innovation

This report provides a mapping on public and private funding instruments for energy innovation, which can support energy technology R&I. The guide provides an outlook of the available trans-national, national and regional funding instruments, in order to support the coordination of the industrial participation in the SET Plan, in particular from the industry-driven associations and initiatives such as the European Technology and Innovation platforms (ETIPs), European Joint Technology Initiatives or other relevant public-private partnerships, and importantly the industrial actors identified in the 13 non-nuclear SET Plan implementation plans.

  • Analysis of the industry’s funding needs

The report takes into consideration the need for financial contributions from public and private funding sources at different levels and analyses the main constraints (bureaucratic, administrative, legal) which can compromise the regular execution of R&I activities and implementation of the SET Plan. A better understanding of the industries’ views and concerns was developed with reference to potential measures and improvements in the fields of funding mechanisms, project management, funding applications, budget and reporting, amongst others.
